Trigger Point Therapy
What is a Trigger Point?
Do you experience chronic pain in a specific spot? Is it worse when pressure is applied? It may be a trigger point.
A trigger point is a painful knotted lump of soft tissue. Trigger points are sensitive to pressure. When triggered, these points cause a sharp pain that is followed by a nagging or throbbing sensation. This pain may radiate to other parts of the body.
Trauma, overuse, underuse, injury, or poor posture can cause trigger points. The most problematic trigger points are found in the neck and back, but they can be found all over the body.
Trigger points can be extremely painful, reduce your range of motion, make daily activities difficult, cause migraines, etc.
How Does It Work?
Trigger point therapy is a type of massage that involves a variety of techniques used to release the muscle.
At Supportive Healing, a few of our techniques include:
-
Applying pressure to the trigger point
-
Stretching the muscle
-
Targeted vibrations through the therapist's fingers created by the Pure Wave hand-held device
-
Applying heat or cold
Depending on the severity of the trigger point, it may take more than one session to fully release the muscle.
